End the Night a Winner
New Year’s Eve revellers heading to tonight’s Gloucester Park meeting could boost their bank balance by supporting the Gary Hall-trained trotter Rocknroll Baby in the last race of the year.
This former South Australian mare joined Hall’s Serpentine stables about three months ago after establishing a very consistent record at Adelaide’s Globe Derby Park.
Rocknroll Baby’s first start in the west underlined her ability when she finished an unlucky second behind classy squaregaiter Sunoflindenny in a standing start race at headquarters.
But punters who continued following the mare burnt their fingers badly when she broke hopelessly at her next two starts in stands at Pinjarra.
Tonight Rocknroll Baby steps out in a mobile and has drawn gate two over the 2130m journey.
Champion reinsman Gary Hall Jr will be keen to take up the early running on Rocknroll Baby and if she can set the pace her seven rivals could find it hard reeling her in over the short trip.
Junior may try to make every post a winner on the five-year-old mare in an endeavour to run the opposition off their feet.
You’ll need to be brave to part with your hard-earned, of course, as Rocknroll Baby can do things wrong in her races.
But if she stays in her gear for Junior then she appeals as the one to beat.
The dangers are polemarker Tenno Show, who is shooting for a hat-trick of wins after a recent double at Pinjarra, the speedy Balmoral Boy from gate five and the evergreen Lightning Calder, who will start from the outside of the front line.
It’s a good trotters race to finish the evening’s racing on before the crowd enjoys the fireworks.
Hopefully Rocknroll Baby can be on her best behaviour and reward those game enough to stick with her.
