Nine in a Row to The Bird Dance
New Zealand-bred four-year-old The Bird Dance resumed after a spell in style at Gloucester Park on Friday night when he set the pace and won a 2130m mobile event at a 1.56.9 rate.
Prepared by leading trainers Greg and Skye Bond and driven by Ryan Warwick, The Bird Dance was favourite at $1.10 ($1.65 on the fixed market). From barrier four, he led after 50m and after dashing over the final 800m in 56.3sec. he won convincingly from Sir Galahad, who fought on grimly after working hard without cover.
This extended The Bird Dance’s winning sequence to nine and took his record to ten wins from 13 starts. After winning twice from five starts in New Zealand, The Bird Dance is unbeaten at eight starts in Western Australia.
Another New Zealand-bred four-year-old in Always An Honour notched his tenth win from only 21 starts when he started favourite at $2, set the pace for trainer-reinsman Justin Prentice from barrier three and won by three lengths from Dominate The Dojo, rating 1.59.5 over 2536m.
