None of the eleven runners in the 2130m Wonderful To Fly Supports Ride For Ahlia Pace at Gloucester Park on Friday night had been placed at their past three starts, and punters were quick to establish Suing You (unplaced at her past six starts) as the warm favourite because of her frontrunning ability and the important fact that she was starting from the prized No. 1 barrier.
Suing You, part-owned, trained and driven by Shane Young, was the $1.90 favourite and she gave her supporters no cause for concern as she dictated the terms in front and coasted to a smart one-length victory over the $4.60 second fancy, who had trailed her throughout the 2130m.
“Like the rest of the field Suing You had no great exposed form,” said Young. “But she has been a handy mare who felt good tonight. And she has now won five metro races.”
Suing You has led and won from the No. 1 barrier at Gloucester Park four times as well as leading and winning twice after starting from barrier two. Her record now stands at 49 starts for 13 wins, seven placings and $123,167 in prizemoney.
She is by Alta Christiano and is the second foal out of New Zealand-bred mare Tiger Su, who won once in New Zealand and had nine starts for trainer Gary Hall snr in WA in 2012 for three wins and two placings.
Tiger Su’s first foal One Off Delight raced 99 times for 15 wins, 33 placings and $289,691. One Off Delight’s wins included the group 1 Westbred Classic for three-year-old colts and geldings at Gloucester Park in June 2018 and the group 2 San Simeon Pace in August 2019.
