Champion trainer Gary Hall Snr and his son, star reinsman Gary Hall Jnr are delighted at the form of a newcomer to their Serpentine stable, a talented former Victorian square gaiter Bromwich, who is unbeaten at his three appearances in Western Australia.

Five-year-old Bromwich has not been extended in those victories, and he was the $1.50 favourite when he coasted to the front after 100m and went on to win the 2130m Cowden For Exceptional Service Trot by three lengths from $16 chance Luvaflair.

“He is a nice horse, but he got a bit keen in front and I was a bit worried that he might have brought himself undone,” said Hall Jnr.

However, Hall’s fears were unfounded, and the son of Canadian sire Majestic Son won easily and looks set to develop into one of the State’s best trotters.

However, Hall said that Bromwich, who has earned $91,972 from nine wins and 13 placings from 48 starts, was certainly far from being superior to two other trotters in the stable.

“We’ve got Tricky Ric, who is back in work and should resume racing in a couple of months, and we have got another trotter with good form in Marengo Bay,” he said. “So, the stable could have three strong contenders for the $50,000 Trotters Cup at Gloucester Park early next year.”

Seven-year-old Tricky Ric’s past 15 starts have produced eleven wins and two placings to boost his career record to 45 starts for 16 wins and eleven placings for stakes of $187,066.

Five-year-old Bromwich arrived in WA recently with a Victorian losing sequence of 12, but has flourished against several experienced local trotters, with Hall Jnr predicting that Marengo Bay would also be a successful performer in WA.

Marengo Bay, a five-year-old by Im Stately, has raced 20 times for five wins, five seconds and one third for takes of $39,320. Marengo Bay and Bromwich have clashed four times with Marengo Bay finishing ahead of Bromwich on each occasion.
