The news that super sire American Ideal died on January 28th has rocked the breeding sector in Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
The shuttle stallion was in quarantine awaiting his return to North America when he developed severe colic and during emergency surgery numerous cancerous masses were revealed which resulted in his humane euthanasia.
American Ideal is the all-time leading sire of winners of the WA Pacing Cup with the most recent winner of the race, Magnificent Storm, giving the stallion his fifth win in the State’s time-honoured race.
Since 2015 American Ideal has sire ten individual starters in the WA Pacing Cup with four individual winners in My Hard Copy, Soho Tribeca, Mighty Conqueror and Magnificent Storm. My Hard Copy won the race twice in 2015 and 2016.
This remarkable sire has seven yearlings in the APG Western Australian Yearling Sale on March 3rd and catalogues are available in the General Office at Gloucester Park.
Who knows – perhaps his next WA Pacing Cup winner is in the catalogue.
