Brilliant six-year-old Pinny Tiger will be set for the $50,000 Lord Mayor’s Cup over 2130m next Friday week after making a wonderful return to racing at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Pinny Tiger, part-owned and trained by Michael Brennan, was the $1.10 favourite in the 2130m WA Hall Of Fame Submissions Due Pace, and he revealed all his sparkling speed when he set the pace and romped to victory, beating $15 chance Tiger Royal by four and a half lengths, rating 1.55.3.

“I love watching him; he’s just poetry in motion, and the good thing tonight was that he was super relaxed and able to run a 31sec. opening quarter and then run his final quarters in 27.6sec. and 27.5sec. on his ear,” said Brennan.

“He has had a lot of hard races in the past 12 months, and I wanted to give him a nice experience tonight when he ticked every box.

“We will now look at the Lord Mayor’s Cup in a fortnight and then the Pinjarra Cup (March 4) before the $300,000 Fremantle Cup (April 26).”

Chris Voak enjoyed an armchair drive, and Pinny Tiger was not extended at any stage. He now has raced 42 times for 15 wins, 11 seconds and $236,309.

Pinny Tiger, the winner of the Group 1 Four-Year-Old Classic at Gloucester Park in December 2022 when he beat Jumpingjackmac before winning the Nights Of Thunder a month later, then travelled to New South Wales where he had three starts, including an excellent fourth in the Newcastle Mile.

“We will stay in WA this year,” said Brennan. “Last year was the right year to go to Sydney with him.”
