New Zealand-bred five-year-old Rockmyster has resumed after a spell in fine form, and his trainer-reinsman Dylan Egerton-Green predicts a bright future for the gelding.

Rockmyster’s two appearances after a five-month absence have resulted in a fast-finishing first-up second to Rockandrollartist and a powerful victory in the Westral Plantation Timber Shutters Pace at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Rockmyster was a $10.20 chance from the No. 2 barrier on the back line, and Egerton-Green gave him an ideal passage in the one-out, two-back position before setting him alight with a three-wide burst 600m from home.

He took a narrow lead from the pacemaker Rockandrollartist ($26) with 220m to travel and he went on to win by more than a length from Dominus Factum ($15), with the $1.55 favourite The Miki Taker finishing third after a tough run in the breeze.

The final quarters were run in 28.3sec. and 28.1sec. and Rockmyster rated 1.56.3 over the 2130m.

“Rockmyster can now sustain his finishing runs which he wasn’t previously able to do,” said Egerton-Green. “He has got better with each preparation, and hopefully he will go through the grades.”

Rockmysyter is by American sire Rock N Roll Heaven and is the eleventh foal out of unraced mare Operative Asset. He won once from nine starts in New Zealand and now boasts a fine WA record of 25 starts for nine wins and seven placings.
