New Zealand-bred five-year-old Chal Patch ran an excellent trial for next Friday night’s $50,000 Binshaw Pace when he was not extended in scoring an impressive victory in the 2503m HTA Rent A Gen Handicap at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
A winner at six of his 37 New Zealand starts, Chal Patch was purchased by Ravenswood trainer Nathan Turvey, who races the Art Major gelding in partnership with ten stable clients, eight of whom shared in the ownership of Turvey’s former smart pacer Miracle Moose, who won 14 races in WA as well as finishing a half-head second to Wildwest in the WA Pacing Cup in February 2022.
Chal Patch began from the 10-metre mark in Friday night’s standing-start event and was the $1.20 favourite. He raced without cover for most of the way before Gary Hall sent him to the front on the home turn and went on to beat the pacemaker and $6.50 second favourite Extraordinary Mary by ten metres, with the final three 400m sections being run in 28.9sec., 28.3sec. and 28.9sec.
Chal Patch is the ninth foal out of the Live Or Die mare Chal Roco, a winner at two of her eleven starts in New Zealand. He now has had five starts in WA for three wins and two placings.
