Ravenswood trainer Jocelyn Young has Valentines Brook racing at the peak of his powers, and she is looking forward for a first success for the six-year-old in a group feature event when he contests the $50,000 Group 3 Pinjarra Cup on Monday week.
Valentines Brook notched his fifth win in a row — following a sequence of five second placings — when Kyle Symington drove him to victory in the 2130m Trotsynd Syndication Pace at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
The Victorian-bred Valentines Brook was the $1.60 favourite from barrier No. 3, and he was forced to race in the breeze after $19 chance Pradason revealed his normal brilliant gate speed to dash straight to the front from barrier five.
Symington was content to rate Valentines Brook in the breeze before he sent him to the front 300m from home, following a brisk third quarter of 27.6sec. Valentines Brook went on to win by a half-length from $26 chance Sheeez Our Hope, who had enjoyed a perfect passage in the one-out, one-back position. Eldaytona ($51) ran on solidly from sixth at the bell to be third.
Valentines Brook has now earned $177,050 from 16 wins and 24 placings from 67 starts.
