Smart Sportswriter colt Floewriter warmed up for next Friday night’s $50,000 Sales Classic for three-year-old colts and geldings in fine style at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

The Aiden de Campo-trained Floewriter scored an effortless win when he led all the way from the No. 1 barrier and beat Swingband by just over a length, rating a modest 1.59.5 in the 2130m Most Winners In A Night Co-winner Wayne Currall Pace.

With de Campo serving a brief term of suspension, Ryan Warwick drove Floewriter (favourite at $1.45) for the first time, and after a very slow lead time of 40.5sec. and dawdling opening quarters of the final mile in 31.5sec. and 30.5sec. the result was a foregone conclusion.

Swingband ($5.50) lost few admirers for next Friday’s big race, and neither did Floewriter’s stablemate The Miki Taker ($3.50), who finished a nose behind Swingband in third place.

Swingband raced in the breeze for the final 1550m, and he fought on strongly, with final 400m sections whizzing by in 28.9sec. and 26.9sec. The Miki Taker was unlucky. He trailed the leader all the way and was hopelessly blocked for a run throughout the final circuit.

Floewriter has won at eight of his 15 starts and his 14 part-owners are praying for a favourable barrier in the final.
