Talented pacer Floewriter has recovered from leg problems, and he staked a strong claim for a start in the $200,000 Golden Nugget next Friday week when he gave a bold frontrunning display to score an emphatic victory in the Freshest Hits And Throwbacks On Nova Four-Year-Old Class Consolation at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Driven confidently by Ryan Warwick for Capel trainer Aiden De Campo, Floewriter, the $1.80 favourite from the No. 1 barrier, scored by a length from Steno ($8.50), with Brickies Dream ($6) an unlucky third after being hopelessly blocked for a clear run after trailing the leader all the way.

Floewriter sprinted over the final quarters in 28.8sec. and 28.2sec. and rated 1.57.7 over the 2130m to improve the Sportswriter horse’s record to 30 starts for 12 wins, four placings and $175,765 in stakes, a splendid return after De Campo outlaid $30,000 at the 2020 APG Perth yearling sale to buy him on behalf of several stable clients.

Floewriter has inherited much of his ability from his dam, the Lombo Mandingo mare Maddy White, who was driven by De Campo for seven of her eleven wins from 51 starts.

“Floewriter has had his injury troubles over the seasons,” said De Campo. “But he is a nice horse, and this time in he has progressed with each run, and he won very well tonight. If he gets a start in the Nugget, he will be very competitive. He is up to the top-class horses.

“He has damaged a suspensory ligament on both sides of his near foreleg, and he has shown no signs of soreness at his three runs in his current preparation.”
