Fabulous filly Wonderful To Fly appears to have a mortgage on the $50,000 APG Gold Bullion for three-year-old fillies next Friday night.
She completed her triumphant march towards the rich classic with another effortless victory at Gloucester Park on Friday night when she was unextended in setting the pace and beating smart colt Hoppys Way by two lengths in the 2130m Garrard’s Perth Pace.
Part-owner and trainer-reinsman Shane Young is taking nothing for granted, but he was beaming after her win and said: “Obviously, she should be hard to beat next week.
“It was pleasing, and she was really on the ball tonight. I stirred her up out of the gate. It was the first time that I have really asked her to run out the gate, and she got a little bit keen. And she peeled off a good last half (55sec.) pretty softly.”
Wonderful To Fly, the $1.04 favourite, began from barrier four and burst straight to the front before coasting through the lead time in a casual 38sec. and the opening quarters in 32.1sec. and 30.6sec. She then accelerated to dash over the final 400m sections in 28.1sec. and 26.9sec. to win at a 1.57.6 rate.
Wonderful To Fly has now amassed $233,426 from 13 wins and six placings from 23 starts.
