Champion reinsman Chris Lewis completed a treble at Gloucester Park on Friday night when he drove Pierre Whitby to a comfortable all-the-way victory in the 2130m Pace.

Pierre Whitby, the $2.20 favourite prepared by Debra Lewis, gave his rivals little chance after dawdling through the lead time in 38sec. and crawling through the opening quarter in 33.1sec.

Lewis then increased the tempo and Pierre Whitby ran the final three 400m sections in 30sec., 28.9sec. and 28.1sec. to notch his first victory after setting the pace. The noted sit-sprinter had run on strongly to record all his previous 14 wins.

Pierre Whitby won by just under a length from $7.50 chance Master Leighton, who finished solidly from sixth at the bell. McArdles Gem ($7) was seventh at the bell before finishing fast into third place.

Pierre Whitby is proving a wonderful buy for Mark Lewis, who purchased the Mach Three gelding for $7500 in April 2019. Since then, the Mach Three six-year-old has had 104 starts for 15 wins, 34 placings and stakes of $149,938. He has inherited much of his ability from his dam Party Date, a brilliant mare who raced 96 times for 14 wins, 32 placings and $134,678.
