WA-bred pacer Seeryanfly maintained his remarkable form in standing-start events when he finished with a powerful burst to win the 2503m Book Your Event at Gloucester Park Handicap on Friday night.

“His record in stands in unbelievable,” said his trainer Garry Sayers after his cousin Shannon Suvaljko had driven a perfect race in the one-out, one-back position before urging Seeryanfly, the $5.80 third favourite, to the front in the final 15m to beat the $3.10 second fancy My Little Big Man and the $1.75 favourite Love On The Rocks.

Seeryanfly now has contested seven standing-start events for six wins and one third placing. He is also a smart performer in mobile events, with a shining example being his 1m second to Finvarra in the group 1 Westbred Classic for three-year-old colts and geldings in June 2021.

Love On The Rocks, making his Australian debut, galloped and lost 20 metres at the start, settling down in sixth position when Call To Arms set the pace for the first 550m before Chris Voak dashed My Little Big Man to the front, leaving Love On The Rocks in the breeze.

My Little Big Man set a brisk pace, with the final three quarters being run in 29sec., 28.3sec. and 29.2sec. He failed narrowly to hold out the strong-finishing Seeryanfly.

Seeryanfly is by American sire Heston Blue Chip and is out of Brush With Courage, who raced nine times as a two and three-year-old in 2010 for three wins, two placings and $33,895. Brush With Courage is a full-sister to Heez On Fire (52 starts for 20 wins, eight placings and $287,607) and is a half-sister to Papinik (25 starts for 14 wins, seven placings and $145,511).

The five-year-old Seeryanfly has earned $123,445 from 14 wins and 14 placings from 52 starts.
