The two-year-old fillies take top billing at Gloucester Park on Friday night for the running of the $100,000 GPHR Diamond Classic (2130m).

The Group 2 event has attracted a top-class field with the unbeaten Water Lou, from the in-form stables of Kevin Keys, drawing the river.

The members of the WA Trotting Media Guild have studied the meeting assiduously in an effort to provide punters with their best bets on the 10-event card.

Interestingly, all have sidestepped the feature when deciding on their star bets.

Award-winning journalist Ken Casellas is keen on Kimble in race two.

“Kimble has drawn awkwardly at barrier six in the Westral Pace on Friday night, but he earns my nod as the night’s best bet because he is racing with wonderful enthusiasm,” Casellas said. “Got out late and hit the line strongly when third to Whatabro and Mea Culpa last week.”

Guild president Wayne Currall believes Street Hawk can make amends for his unlucky second last start.

“Leading reinswoman Deni Roberts has been in great form of late,” Currall said. “She and the Bond team continue to produce winner after winner. Street Hawk did all the work in the breeze when narrowly beaten by Hoppys Way last week. He’s drawn awkwardly in gate 10 but I’m confident Roberts can find the right path to get him home.”

Longshot maestro Pat Harding, who struck again last week when he found Whatabro at the juicy odds of $31, has opted for Cotton On as his best for the evening.

“Looks like another cracking night for Greg and Skye Bond at GP,” Harding said. “Unfortunately, small fields continue.

My best bet comes up in race four with the Bond-trained Cotton On from barrier one. Has some good wins under his belt and with an ideal barrier should win again.”

Ryan Havercroft, the racing co-ordinator at The West Australian, is a patient man. He has waited until the last race on the card to unveil his best bet.

“Rolling Fire made it three from three since returning from a let-up by winning here a fortnight ago,” Havercroft said. “Again the son of Roll With Joe has a two-week break between runs and, though drawn widest of the seven runners, should have a class and fitness edge over Rocket City, his main rival here.”

VALUE BETS

KEN: For value I suggest veteran pacer Cordero, who has a losing sequence of 13, but should enjoy a massive drop in class when he starts out wide at barrier eight in race one. He has been racing against Tenzing Bromac, Mighty Ronaldo, Steel The Show, Youre So Fine, Prince Of Pleasure and Patronus Star. He should give you a good run for your money against moderate opposition.

WAYNE: Ardens Horizon meets Your So Fine, the favourite, 20m better from last week’s stand. Considering he only was beaten by 14m, he looks the logical danger. Throw in the fact he begins fast from the strands and he appeals as an each-way play.

PAT: My double comes up in race three with No. 8 Whos The Dad. Had a bad run last week but should make up for it this week.

RYAN: Seeryanfly looks a great each-way proposition when following out short-priced favourite Cotton On in the San Simeon Pace. Looks a place lock.

Good punting.
