Buckle yourselves in ladies and gentlemen … Friday night’s card at Gloucester Park features a massive 12 events.
Race caller Matt Young will certainly earn his pay packet this week with the first event kicking off just after 5pm and the last at 10.45pm.
And punters will also witness the running of the two rich APG finals, the first one for the two-year-old colts and geldings and the two-year-old fillies immediately after.
The lucky connections of the winners of the $125,000 events will pocket more than $74,000.
And there are two APG $50,000 events for the three-year-olds as well.
Two members of the WA Trotting Media Guild have made their best bet in the boys’ division of the 3YO APG final.
Ernie Manning, the pacing expert from The West Australian and The Sunday Times, together with longshot king Pat Harding, he made Mighthavtime his best bet last week and the mare duly saluted at the juicy odds of 14/1, are keen on Ten To The Dozen.
“Talented three-year-old Ten To The Dozen was highly impressive in a frontrunning victory at Gloucester Park two weeks ago and is back to the form that delivered him victories at four consecutive starts last year,” Manning said. “Though unplaced when racing against strong opposition in Sydney last season, the colt has displayed class in two wins from three WA starts since a spell. Hard to beat with a gate one advantage.”
And Harding agrees.
“Great to see 12 good races at GP this Friday,” Harding said. “Nevertheless, still going to be pretty tough for punters and tipsters alike. My best bet comes up in race five with the Greg and Skye Bond-trained Ten To The Dozen from barrier one. Has got excellent form and should win again from this barrier.”
Guild president Wayne Currall has made Nevermindthechaos his best for the evening.
“The Michael Young-trained Nevermindthechaos returned from a lengthy spell with an all-the-way victory at headquarters last month,” Currall said. “Although the mare fell in that night, she did run 1:55.6 for the 2100m journey and would have derived plenty of benefit from that hit-out. She has come up with the ace draw and champion reinsman Gary Hall Jr will be looking to post another all-the-way victory. Will be short but should be winning.”
TABradio’s Matt Young has opted for Ardens Horizon as his star bet.
“Ardens Horizon has been flying and back to the stand he looks really hard to beat,” Young said. “He is versatile, but for us punters I am hoping he is in front wheeling and dealing.”
Veteran tipster Ken Casellas is a very patient man. He has waited until race 12 to unveil his best bet.
“Eight-year-old Duty Bound will be having his first start for 13 weeks when he contests the 12th and last event on Friday night,” Casellas said. “And even though he has been unplaced at his past five appearances (with a combined losing margin of 224 metres), I’m suggesting him as my best bet. He possesses excellent gate speed and drops in class against in-form pacers Here Comes Sharkie and Maddy Rocks, each of whom has a losing sequence of 25, and promising but inexperienced three-year-old Franco Encore, who could be susceptible from out wide at barrier seven.”
VALUE BETS
ERNIE: Six-year-old Otis has been beaten at his past 12 starts but looked close to a win for trainer-reinsman Dylan Egerton-Green when second from a standing start last Friday night. Nine of his 10 wins have been in mobile start events, and he should not be troubled by a switch back to the mobile.
PAT: My double comes up in race eight with No. 1 Hillview Heidi with Chris Voak aboard. She looks promising with a good second at her first start.
WAYNE: I’m thinking the returning Hampton Banner could come back after his nine-month spell as a winner. He possesses brilliant gate speed and has raced against the best in his career.
MATT: The Bettor Side is a nice two-year-old who could fly under the radar in this feature. I think he’s a good each-way chance.
KEN: Bettagetonpip has impressed at her two starts, for a win at Narrogin and a fighting second to Ruby Lou in a qualifying heat of the Sales Classic for two-year-old fillies. From the handy draw at barrier three she will be in the firing line all the way and should fight out the finish of the rich final.
