Two Group 2 races worth $100,000 each will be run at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

And champion reinsman Gary Hall Jnr looks a very good chance of landing the chocolates in both features.

Junior will drive odds-on favourite August Moon in the Westside Auto Wholesale 3YO Fillies Westbred Classic (2130m).

A half an hour later he will jump in the bike behind likely favourite Never Ending in the Allwood Stud 3YO Colts & Geldings Westbred Classic.

Two members of the WA Trotting Media Guild believe Never Ending can make amends for his shock defeat as a long odds-on favourite last week at headquarters.

TABradio’s Matt Young and Guild president Wayne Currall have made Never Ending their best bet on the 10-event card.

“Never Ending has come back in wonderful form and even though defeated last start, his run was massive,” Young said. “From the wide draw you can expect a better price and I think the star will flex his muscles and win the Westbred again.”

And Currall agrees.

“Never Ending resented being pushed out of the mobile at his last start when he broke and was tailed off,” Currall said. “He did a fantastic job to finish third after his early misdemeanour and Junior will be a lot more patient with him this week. I think he’s got the class to overcome his wide draw.”

Award-winning journalist Ken Casellas is keen on Vegas Strip in the opening race.

“Punters are always anxious to get away to a flying start, and I’m making Vegas Strip my best bet to score in race one on Friday night, despite his wide draw at barrier eight,” Casellas said. “He is an exciting youngster who has revealed sparkling speed to win at his first two starts in WA after arriving from New Zealand.”

Longshot maestro Pat Harding has opted for Lamandier as his star bet.

“Good to see some good fields back at GP this week,” Harding said. “My best bet comes up in race two with No. 3 Lamandier. With Shannon Suvaljko aboard, I expect him to record his second win in four starts.”

VALUE BETS

MATT: Simply Shaz was a great run last start and can come on well from middle of the field. Looks like an each-way play.

WAYNE: Grevis looks each-way all day in the first race. Ran a cheeky second to stablemate Menemsha last week in the Pearl Classic and is drawn favourably in gate two.

KEN: Cooper is a capable standing-start performer who gets his chance to end a 13-month drought and break a losing sequence of 16 when he starts from the front line in race eight and looks the likely leader.

PAT: My double comes up in race three with No. 4 Whatabro. Had a great win two starts ago and then a second, so I can see him recording another win for the Michael Brennan/Chris Voak combination.
